BLACKENED OXIDIZED SILVER

A piece of blackened (oxidized) silver is absolutely true sterling silver, but it’s surface has been intentionally darkened through by introducing it to a chemical process. This patina, a surface color that occurs when the silver is introduced to sulfides, is a sped up version of the natural tarnishing process. A layer of silver sulfide forms on the exterior of the metal giving it a blackened look.

We jewelers use a chemical compound such as liver of Sulphur, a potassium sulfide, to create the blackened surface on silver jewelry.

Oxidized silver is just a surface treatment and does not change the internal color or properties of the metal.

AVAILABLE FINISHING OPTIONS IN OUR STORE

We use in our manufacturing two variants of the finishing sterling silver.

• Blackened silver 925 (tarnish by oxidation). Backgrounds surfaces after oxidation gets blackened but the convex are shine polished. It gives silver jewelry more contrast and less tarnish on air.
• Shine silver 925. We cover sterling silver jewelry by nikkel or rhodium metals. This allows the product to keep its presentation for a long time.
